Program Overview

George Mason University is proud to offer a unique opportunity for undergraduate students, the Global Politics Fellows program.

This is a 15-credit, one semester academic program for selected Schar School and Global Affairs majors at George Mason University. The academic program is based at the Mason Square campus and incorporates an internship experience into the semester.

The Global Politics Fellows make up a small cohort of 20 to 30 students, all interested in the role of government in society, here in the United States and abroad. The smaller classes allow for more student discussion and the opportunity to delve deeper into the issues the world faces today. The internship provides students the chance to immediately apply what they are learning and offers students greater insight into their future career in the arena of government and global affairs.

Additional features of the program:

  • The internship component of the semester allows students to experience work in the politics domain. Students work in a variety of organizations including on Capitol Hill, in local and federal government departments, and for NGOs.
  • The semester provides students a fantastic opportunity to develop and test their networking skills - both in and outside the classroom. Our alumni often note that the networks they built during their GPF semester aid their careers; it is not uncommon for GPF alumni to find themselves working at their internship site after graduating from George Mason.
  • Credits earned during the semester can be applied to a variety of minors and concentrations, depending on your major.

The GPF program will be offered next in Spring 2026.

Applications will be accepted in October/November 2025.
